JULY/AUGUST - 2010

Springfield Board News

I have scheduled the following vacation days so please note the Board office will be closed on Friday, July 30th; Friday August 6th and Monday August 9th.

Next scheduled Board of Directors Meeting will be Wednesday, August 18th at 8:30 a.m.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER:

The S B O R Directors met July 21st and there are three items for your consideration:

1.  Reminder that Friday, July 30th is the final date to pay the $30 assessment.  Your cooperation is appreciated.  If you
have any questions, Directors or your Broker can explain the process.

2.  A big "Thank You" to the people who helped pass the hat at the Summer Arts Festival last month:  Diane Ericksen, Charlene Roberge, Jerome and Brenda Vinson, Mary and George Mann.   There were 7 of us and the effort is appreciated.

 3.  A reminder that the Board office hours are the same as they have been for a long time; 9a.m.-3p.m., Monday through Friday unless there is a schedule change in which all members are notified in advance that the office is closed.

4.   It is my understanding that the city will pay $2500 to any Realtor who brings a buyer to one of the houses that the city has rehabbed and now has for sale.  There are two properties so far and more are expected.  Might be worth looking into.

Roger Baker, 2010 President

Home prices higher than '09

U.S. home prices, including distressed sales, increased by 2.9% compared to the same month last year, according to CoreLogic in its monthly index.

May was the fourth straight month prices showed a year-over-year increase.

"Home price appreciation stabilized as home buyer tax credit-driven sales peaked in late spring," says Mark Fleming, chief economist for CoreLogic. "But given that the labor market and income growth remain tepid, we expect prices to moderate and possibly decline the rest of the year."

Senate Still Needs to Act on Flood Insurance
The House of Representatives has approved the Flood Insurance Reform Priorities Act (H.R. 5114), which would extend the
National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) through 2015, but the outlook for consideration from the U.S. Senate remains unclear. Unless a longer term reauthorization is enacted, Congress will again have to consider another short-term extension before September 30, 2010, when NFIP authority is next set to expire.
